Tracey J. Coates
Associate

 


Tracey joined Wendy H. Schwartz & Associates, PLLC in 2007. Prior to joining the firm, she clerked for the Honorable Judge John S. Leonardo with the Pima County Superior Court in Tucson, Arizona in the Criminal Division. After her clerkship, she was employed as a Staff Attorney with the Maryland Legal Aid Bureau in Baltimore, Maryland, representing abused and neglected children. In her pre-law life, while putting herself through college and law school, Tracey was employed as a flight attendant for twelve (12) years.

Tracey graduated from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts in 1998 with a B.A. in psychology. She is currently a board member of the Smith College Alumni Club of Washington, D.C. Tracey received her J.D. from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2005, where she was a member of the National Moot Court Team, a research assistant to

 

Professor Jill Barclift, and a legal research and writing tutor. She is currently a Hamline University School of Law Alumni Board Member (2009-2010).

While in law school, Tracey worked as a law clerk for both the Federal Trade Commission and for the Honorable Judge Gordon Shumaker with the Minnesota Court of Appeals. She was also a summer intern for the House of Ruth located in the Montgomery County Circuit Courthouse in Rockville, Maryland, assisting survivors of domestic violence. Tracey currently volunteers with WEAVE (Women Empowered Against Violence); is a member of the Pro Bono Exploratory Committee with the Montgomery County Bar Association’s Family Law Section; and serves as a mentor to high school students in the Washington, D.C. public school system.

Tracey is licensed in Maryland (admitted 2006) and the District of Columbia (admitted 2008). She is a member of the Montgomery County Bar (Member, Family Law Section), District of Columbia Bar (Member, Family Law Section), American Bar Association (Member, Family Law and Young Lawyers’ Sections), and the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia.
